About The JSC

The main objective of the JSC (Judging Standards Committee) is to make sure that the right Koi obtains the right award in the right variety, in the right size, at the right time on the day, every time.

The JSC provides benching support to any of the BKKS section as well as providing judges to non-BKKS shows both home and abroad.

The shows are allocated by a JSC officer, who tries to obtain a good rotation of Judges. A Judging team will not attend the same regional shows in consecutive years. The exception being the BKKS National Show in June, to which all full Judges are invited.

BKKS Judges demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to the hobby by travelling to shows all over the UK May to October show season.

The aims of the JSC are simple, and are as found below.

  • To formulate and maintain a set of show rules and guidelines applicable to all BKKS shows.

These are under annual review and may be amended in the light of new information, for example, the appearance of a new Koi variety, or feedback from Judges on problems caused by a particular ruling at shows.

  • To provide Judges for all BKKS shows.
  • To recruit and train new Judges to a very high standard.

This involves annual review and assessment of the trainees, the training seminar and the training methods in the field.

  • To formulate and maintain a Code of Conduct such that all Judges and trainees present a professional appearance and behaviour while on duty.
  • To promote enthusiasm and knowledge of Koi appreciation amongst all Koi hobbyists
