Benching Course
In response to a number of requests for benching training the Society has drawn up a programme to give personnel involved in benching at shows the necessary skills to carry out the role, and ensure that all those involved in the handling of koi at shows are well placed for any potential future animal welfare legislation.
Individuals will receive two days training, which will include the following:
- Lecture and Slide Presentation on the 13 Benching Varieties used by the BKKS, including unusual varieties.
- Lecture and Slide Presentation on Benching Protocol, including an understanding of show rules and how they affect benching.
- Presentation on How to Bench Koi.
- Practical Demonstration on benching koi and hands on practice and tuition.
Following the weekend of training, individuals will then be required to return for a one day assessment cover the following:
- Written examination on Benching Protocol and Show Rules.
- Variety Identification examination.
- Practical debagging and benching assessment.
The cost of the training weekend and examination day will be finalised nearer the date, but outline costs suggest a fee of £65 per BKKS Member and £85 for a non-BKKS attendee. BKKS Members will receive priority in reservations over non-members in the event that courses are oversubscribed.
Prior to dates for courses being announced, it is important that the level of interest in the training package is identified and anyone who thinks this training is of benefit to them should contact the BKKS General Secretary at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Once sufficient interest has been identified, details of the courses will be published with final costs and details of how to apply.
