Organisation of the BKKS

The largest part of the Society is formed by its ordinary members spread throughout the UK, often but not exclusively in sections. The general affairs of the Society are managed by a smaller group known as the Council which consists of officers and other council members. The three officers (Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer) are elected at an AGM for a period of three years, and only one officer each year to provide strong overlap in the running of the society. Other council members are elected at AGM for two years initially, followed by a one year rolling term.

Aims of the BKKS

The British Koi Keepers Society was formed in 1970 for the mutual benefit of its members interested in all aspects of keeping Nishikigoi, the fancy variety of Cyprinus Carpio commonly known as Koi.

  • to disseminate knowledge,
  • to promote a spirit of fellowship,
  • to develop social and cultural activities.

Membership is comprised of Full Members (Individual members, Family members & Honorary Members) and Trade members.

About the BKKS

The British Koi-Keepers' Society was founded in 1970 by a group of like minded people who shared a common love for Nishikigoi (Koi). Formed at a time when information about these wonderful creatures was thin on the ground, the Society provided its members with a means of sharing experiences and gaining knowledge.
