South Hants Show

The UK show season kicked off in great style at the South Hants Koi Club (BKKS Section) held their 18th show at the Havant Leisure Centre on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th May 2009.

It was a new venue for the show but Glenys Cambridge, the Show Chair and her team had done a great job in laying it out and provided an excellent array of craft stands to complement the superb selection of koi being exhibited in 26 vats by their proud owners.

Grand ChampionThere were some great bargains to be had at the dealers’ stands including koi from very low prices to high grade specimen koi from a number of local dealers as well as a good selection of dry goods and the warmer weather saw large quantities of koi food being carried out to the car park.

The craft stands had a wide variety of goods for sale and were also doing good business, and the stunning display at the Windybank Bonsai stand saw some fine trees being bought very early in the day.

HSC reps Tim Fisher and Lee Dootson were there to check the health of the koi whilst they were benched by Glenys, Bernie Woollands and their team, and deal with any issues that arose during the weekend.  However it was great to see that the koi were in excellent health so early in the season, demonstrating the high levels of care afforded them by their owners.

Judges on the day were Alan Coogan, Keiron Burns and Heather Payne, ably assisted by trainees Allan Tait and John Anderson, and the high standard of koi exhibited no doubt gave them some tough decisions to make.

Tetra UK generously donated food prizes to the winners of the show awards, as well as food for the raffles and the water test kits, and their support was greatly appreciated by the club.

Grand Champion went to a Size 7 Momotaro Kohaku owned by Stuart & Sarah Toms (pictured above).  Full results can be found at the club’s website by clicking here
